Goodbye LI...ring in 2009

We left East Quogue right before New Years. We're all going to miss it but on to new adventures. Winter in the Hamptons is extremely quiet but in my opinion that's a wonderful thing. I think Gizmo was sad to leave..he had his routine down. He started to get all freaked out once the suitcases came out. He never knows if he's coming or going..poor dog.

We decided to stay at my parents house for the few days leading up to our journey. We spent New Year's with some great friends. We went to a BR Guest Restaurant in the city called Vento. I've never been a fan of New Years's Eve festivities, mainly for two reasons. One, I don't like going out to eat when I can't sit there and enjoy the food, plus I hate having to choose from a limited New Year's prix fixe. Two, I'm not a big fan of being crammed into a bar or club with thousands of drunken people screaming and yelling. Anyway, that being said New Year's Eve at Vento was actually a lot of fun. Vento offered some specials but you could also order a la carte. We ended up ordering a bunch of apps including trays of cured meats and Italian cheeses, gnocco fritto (tryin to imitate those delicious fried dough balls with prosciutto and strachino that we had in Tuscany) and other random samplings. The restaurant was packed but the service was pretty good. All in all we had a good night and had the chance to ring in the new year with friends (for the first time in years).
